World Heritage Latest
5th July 2010
Last week saw another successful event for the Chatham World Heritage Partnership, with over 100 guests celebrating the completion of the World Heritage Site nomination dossier and the first phase of the Great Lines Heritage Park.
Representatives from Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust, Fort Amherst Heritage Trust, the Royal School of Military Engineering, the Universities at Medway, and the Lower Lines Trust explained why they support the bid, and were welcomed by the Leader of Medway Council, Cllr Rodney Chambers, to the magnificent venue of the St George's Centre. The Chair of the Partnership, Lindsey Morgan, thanked guests for attending, and for their support throughout the bid's development. Lindsey noted that the Partnership had made some major contributions, including proposing the inclusion of the river within the boundary, instigating the quarterly newsletter, and, of course, selecting the name for the Great Lines Heritage Park.

The evening also saw a performance from Stirring Spirits, a Play on Words Community Theatre production, and the opportunity for guests to place items in the time capsule, generously provided by local firm IPS International. The capsule will be buried at the Great Lines Heritage Park to mark the completion of its first phase.

Also marked that evening was the launch of the third round of funding from the Chatham World Heritage Partnership fund, and the second edition of the Chatham World Heritage brochure, updated with new images and information, and the revised boundary.
Thanks are due to the event sponsor, IPS International Ltd, and the Friends of the Admiral's Garden who kindly led the tours of the Lower Lines Park before the meeting.
