Fort Amherst Poetry

Peter Reed, one of Medway's Regeneration Ambassadors came along to the Partnership meeting at Fort Amherst in December, and kindly contributed his reflections on the event.

"Oh, why do I smell like a bonfire when its only half past three? Why do I smell like an old log that's maybe from a Christmas tree?

The log along with others was put upon the fires within an ancient fort. On two floors the fires burnt to warm us right through, what a lovely thought!

The smoke spiralled round and round and up the stairs until it emerged upon the roof and joined the night sky surround.

Out there on the roof was a vista to behold. Twinkling lights from the town below, another story to be told."

.

"As I stood upon the parapet along with other admirers of the twinkling lights far below. We started picking out buildings of note high above the moat. There was just enough light to define the dome of the old Town Hall where people go to be entertained and have a ball. The twinkling lights across the water and below reveal to us their own special show. Along the Medway following the bends of the river, at this time of year, delivers its own special magic, along with a shiver from the December cold."
