Fort Amherst Photo

Brian Damerell came along to the Chatham World Heritage Partnership meeting at Fort Amherst in December 2008, and has kindly shared his thoughts.

"I was present at the meeting at Fort Amherst on the 10th December and was pleased to see so many people there on such a raw evening. Thanks for the drink and nibbles (generous nibbles at that) and I found that while looking around the tunnels I was able to get a feeling of what it may have been like when the fort was a military establishment.

The photograph was taken on the upper gun floor and I have tried to combine the atmosphere of the evening. It shows a slide from the presentation projected onto the wall of the chamber being viewed by those in the room at the time accompanied by the welcome smoky feel from the most welcome fires that had been lit.

It was nice to experience the feeling that 'something was happening'

Good luck to you all and I wish you all a good festive season and look forward to a busy 2009."
